Prancing Leopard Organics: Individualism and the Long Tail of Fashion

Individualism is replacing consumerism as fashion is increasingly driven by intense social networking, blogging, e-mail and the infinite choices on the internet.

"Individualism is fueled by what we call the "long tail of fashion", a merging of the internet, innumerable small fashion houses and the street scene," explains Sevda Holland, founder of Prancing Leopard Organics. "Suddenly everyone counts; they blog and exchange their own ideas and pictures rather than following pre-fabricated fashion trends."

With individualism, people assemble their own eclectic mix of fashion which multi-tasks to reflect their personal needs and tastes - using different styles, pieces and colors, layering them, and wearing style clothing all the time, not just to go out.

"Prancing Leopard has benefited enormously from this development, because we offer on-trend clothing which is at the same time contemporary, leisure and active-wear - and also totally organic, which is a growing trend in itself," observes Sevda Holland.

"Individualism is transforming active-wear. Ove women's coats r 85% of women wear fitness clothing for purposes other than exercise," explains Sevda Holland, who founded the successful Prancing Leopard Organics upscale activewear clothing brand. "We owe our success to this trend. And with the rise of individualism, our yoga and fitness customers are asking us for dresses, sweaters and accessories, too."

In response, Prancing Leopard is bringing back their famous "cocoon shrug", so described by Mark Karimzadeh in Woman's Wear Daily exactly one year ago today, in a new interpretation, the Cocoon II, which is finer and lighter, and even more universal in its flexibility. The new Side Tail Dress has been an instant success; a reversible blouse and other new styles will be announced shortly. This Fall, the line will add accessories which double for yoga and for every day use.

"It's not only about making and anticipating the trends, but also about tight connections with our individual customers, so we know what to keep, what to refine and what to replace," adds Sevda Holland. "The original Aix-en-Provence Jumpsuit is still very popular, in fact it was just featured in Textil Wirtschaft and Glamour in Germany, in perfect timing for the launch of our new German website http://www.prancingleopard.de."

To leverage their effectiveness in the long tail of fashion, Prancing Leopard Organics were the first to open a store on Facebook and they connect using twitter, YouTube, Flickr, newsletters, feeds and even MySpace. Writing and blogging on http://www.prancingleopard.org, they are frequently featured in fashion and fitness blogs and websites. In addition to selling on http://www.prancingleopard.com, they offer arrangements for drop shipping, affiliate programs and conventional internet retailers as well as special programs for teachers, adjunct studios, trunk shows and "leopard advocates", their own independent sales force.

"Years ago, a fashion-forward organic fashion brand would have been unthinkable, let alone an upscale one inspired by yogic principles. But with the rise of individualism, our interconnectedness in cyberspace compliments and supports our physical presence at select high-end boutiques, studios, spas and retreats around the world," explains Sevda Holland.

Prancing Leopard Organics is a fast-growing, sustainable, fashion forward and philanthropic apparel company inspired by Yoga, Pilates, Dance and Fitness, and is focused on upscale clothing styled not just for the runway, but to support individual style at the office, at the studio or at play. Dedicated to eco-conscious living, Prancing Leopard uses long-fiber organic Turkish cotton and does not use phthalates, formaldehyde or other chemicals toxic to the skin. Prancing Leopard's mission is to "Go Green. Do it in Style."

ModCloth Teams Up With BB Dakota to Provide Pre-Order Capabilities

Once again, ModCloth, an online boutique specializing in apparel and decor from independent designers, is leveraging their loyal community of shoppers for crowdsourcing. Participants will get the first chance to pre-order select items from designer BB Dakota's holiday line—from coats to skirts and dresses, they'll be able to reserve their fashion future. ModCloth's indie designers are so popular that their items often sell out fast. The BB Dakota holiday line is available in limited quantities, and by pre-ordering an item, customers are guaranteed purchase of the item before it's gone. Where does crowdsourcing come in? ModCloth can get an early estimate of demand for the designs by evaluating the pre-orders, and responding by upping the inventory of the most coveted designs.

When pre-ordering an item, customers are essentially buying the product in advance of its being in stock, with the added benefit of being the first to get their hands on these much-lauded looks. ModCloth will place a deposit on the participating customers' credit cards, and the moment the item becomes available, it will be shipped. If the piece sells out in pre-order, users can still "Be the First to Know" when it comes in stock by signing up for notification.

The first launch, of 15 items, went live on ModCloth's website Sept. 7, 2010 and new items will continue to become available until mid-October.

"Fashion democratization is one of our key missions at ModCloth," says Chief Creative Officer and Co-Founder, Susan Gregg Koger. "By allowing our customers to pre-order designs, we're asking them to be trend forecasters and they're actually influencing our purchasing decisions."

This new pre-order feature is just one aspect of ModCloth's devotion to seeking input from their community. ModCloth has been a vanguard in customer involvement through established programs like Be the Buyer and Name It and Win It. Be the Buyer encourages customers to vote on their favorite looks, the designs with the most votes ultimately being produced and sold on the site. Name It and Win It creatively involves customers in getting to know a product by challenging them to name it. The winning name appears on the site and the winner gets the item.

ModCloth plans to continue to invest in fashion democratization through customer involvement with exciting new developments to come, always seeking to be on the forefront of fashion and technology.

Lloydspharmacy Reveals Couples Beleaguered by Monthly Cramps

New research from Lloydspharmacy, reveals that whilst an overwhelming number of women suffer from menstrual cramps, male partners' sympathy levels at that time of the month appear to be lacking. Although 87% of men claim to be very or fairly compassionate, a quarter of women (25%) who have suffered discomfort with 'Mother Nature's gift' say their partners are unsympathetic.

The survey shows that period pain plagues nine in 10 women (89%) yet one in five (19%) has suffered in silence at home because of an unsympathetic partner. However it may be a case of actions speaking louder than words as, although many men claim to be considerate, nearly half (42%) admitted they try to stay out of their partner's way when 'aunt dot' comes to stay.

In light of this, it is unsurprising that one in six (16%) women said that period pain has resulted in an argument with their partner. This is especially true for those women who suffer severe pain every month, with:

  • Nearly two thirds (61%) stating their period is extremely or very painful
  • Half said they've been doubled over in pain
  • One in five have been physically sick
  • A quarter have taken sick leave from work

Melinda Setanoians, prescribing pharmacist at Lloydspharmacy, said: "Many women clearly suffer quite badly – so much so that it appears to be affecting the harmony of their relationships. There is a wide choice of painkillers available but some women prefer an alternative to medication or a way in which to supplement it. We are the only high street retailer in the UK to offer a highly effective, drug-free period pain reliever (http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?langId=-1&storeId=90&catalogId=1008&productId=349505 ) device. It uses TENS technology to ease pain, similar to the machines that people use for back pain and that women use in the early stages of childbirth."

The Lloydspharmacy Period Pain Reliever uses TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) technology to alleviate pain. It works by passing harmless electrical signals into the body to relieve pain by blocking the body's pain signals and stimulating the body to produce endorphins, people's own natural pain relief (http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Browse?storeId=90&categoryId=33338&catalogId=1008&langId=-1 ).

Approved by Action on Pain, the Lloydspharmacy Period Pain Reliever is small, discreet and lightweight, with the main unit clipping securely to clothing or underwear.

Alvertis Alize Alexander is a young woman who is bringing a lot to the community of Hempstead, Long Island, known to her friends as Alize. The acting bug took her to the west coast, grabbing a role on L.L. Cool J?抯 hit sitcom, ?揑n the House??in 1996. After networking and making connections, she moved to New York and continued to work for L.L. at Camp Cool J.

One of her most popular writings was the play ?揝keletons?? The play focuses on many taboos in today?抯 society including domestic violence, incest, rape, drug abuse, suicide and murder. The play also focuses on the interaction of family and friends involved in these events and how so many keep traumatic events to themselves and have ?憇keletons in their closets.??

They get together to network, bond and take time for themselves to learn from each other and about each other. If this wasn?抰 enough, Alize recently started her own clothing line, ?揂lve??Threads?? which has been exposed to various designers throughout Queens and Manhattan. Everything she touches turns to gold, as this clothing line is starting to take off and get noticed.
